IORK 2025: A New Era Begins at Mt Smart Stadium

Get ready for a whole new level of karting. IORK 2025 is heading to Mt Smart Stadium in Auckland—our most exciting venue yet. With a brand-new track layout, a refreshed race format, and five championship categories, the New Zealand Rental Kart Championships are bigger, faster, and more competitive than ever.

New Track. New Format. New Challenge.

The Mt Smart Stadium circuit is longer and more flowing than any IORK layout we’ve had before. To suit the demands of this new track, we’re making a key change to the race format. Instead of running traditional lap-based heats (such as 20 or 25 laps), IORK 2025 will feature timed races across all qualifying heats.

Each driver will compete in six timed qualifying heats, with each heat running for a set duration—typically 8 minutes. Drivers will still battle for position throughout the race, but once the countdown reaches zero, that lap becomes the final lap. When the lead driver next crosses the start/finish line, the chequered flag will be shown, and positions are locked in.

This timed race format ensures more consistent racing, rewards smart strategy, and adapts perfectly to the extended lap times expected at Mt Smart. It’s all about timing your moves, holding your line under pressure, and delivering results right to the final second.

Championship Categories & Finals Structure

Drivers will compete in one or more of the following five championship categories, each with its own qualifying heats and final:

  • Under 69.9kg

  • 70kg to 84.9kg

  • 85kg to 99.9kg

  • 100kg to 120kg

  • Under-18s Category (12–18 years)

At the end of the six heats, the top point scorers in each category will advance to the finals. In larger categories, semi-finals will also be run as a one-off knockout race, with the top finishers progressing to the final.

Each category crowns its own champion, and with five championship finals, there are more podium opportunities than ever.

Multi-Category Racing: More Track Time, More Chances

Because of the nature of the Mt Smart track, drivers can now race competitively in more than one weight category, even if they’re heavier than the class they’re entering.

In previous years, many drivers have entered two or even three categories, often qualifying for multiple finals—and some have even taken podium finishes in categories lighter than their actual weight.

If you’re serious about racing, multi-category entry is the best way to maximise your track time, sharpen your racecraft, and give yourself multiple shots at championship glory.

Under-18s Category (12–18 Years)

The 18 Years & Under category is designed for younger drivers aged 12 to 18 years. If you are 18 years old or younger on 25 September 2025, you’re eligible to compete.

This category gives rising stars the chance to race head-to-head against the best young talent in New Zealand, using the same RIMO karts and championship format as the adult racers. It’s the perfect platform to develop racing skills and compete on a national stage.

This Year’s Karts: RIMO Takes the Wheel

For the past four years, IORK has run with SODI RT8 karts—a global standard in rental karting. In 2025, with our move to Mt Smart and partnership with ACE Motorsport, we’ll be racing on RIMO karts.

RIMO is a leading international kart brand, widely recognised for its precise handling, performance consistency, and strong presence in the global rental karting scene. The switch introduces a fresh feel to the racing, offering new challenges and an even playing field for all competitors.

Merchandise & Practice Day Deals Incoming

In the coming weeks, we’ll be launching our IORK 2025 merchandise range, including limited-edition hoodies, caps, tees, and more. It’s perfect for racers and fans looking to represent IORK on and off the track.

We’re also finalising special offers for practice laps and practice days, giving you the chance to get comfortable on the Mt Smart track before race day arrives.

A Championship Built on Momentum

Since its debut in 2020, the IORK New Zealand Rental Kart Championships have grown into the nation’s leading rental karting event. With record entries, national reach, and a growing international presence, the event continues to raise the bar every year.

Whether you’re a seasoned racer or looking to make your debut, IORK 2025 is the ultimate chance to race, compete, and win on a professional track with some of the best drivers in the country.
